What Is a Local Option Levy?

A local option levy is a property tax that must be approved by voters and may be used for operations.

  • It is based on a property’s assessed value, not market value
  • Assessed value in Oregon is generally lower than market value due to Measures 5 and 50
  • It must be approved by voters within the district
  • It may be authorized for a limited period (up to five years)
